Collas Crill

Ebenezer the Donkey

Collas Crill's Donkey is known as Ebenezer after the lead character from the novel by GB Edwards, The Book of Ebenezer Le Page.

Ebenezer was chosen because he represents the archetypal Guernseyman of the 19th century. Ebenezer was a grower and fisherman for much of his life, although he also served in the North regiment of the Royal Guernsey Militia and did some jobbing work for the States of Guernsey in the latter part of his life. He only actually left the island once in his life, and that was to travel to Jersey to watch a football competition between the islands known as the Muratti.

Our Ebenezer was painted by local artist, Gemma Domaille and can be seen at The Market in the centre of Guernsey, although recently he made the Guernsey Press after he was accidentally delivered to the wrong location!

Guernsey MAD Committee Chair Gareth Morgan accompanied Gemma to Ebenezer's spot at the Inner Street of the market and asked Gemma what the most challenging aspect of creating Ebenezer.    'There were some challenges to bring the donkey design to life and producing it from 2D the 3D, which is the best thing about a project', said Gemma. '. .. I was pleased with the end result and I think everyone else is too. '

Collas Crill is proud to have sponsored Ebenezer and is very thankful to Gemma for the fantastic work she has done in bringing him to life.  We are also proud to have been a part of the Guernsey Donkey Parade and the Guernsey Adult Literacy Project, and we look forward to helping them in the future with further fund-raising initiatives. For more information on Ebenezer and the Guernsey Donkey Parade, go to www.guernseydonkeys.com.
