Collas Crill is fastest growing law firm
The Lawyer has named Collas Crill 'the
fastest growing offshore law firm' in its latest offshore survey,
published today.
Collas Crill is placed at number 11 in
the list of the 30 largest offshore law firms.
The Lawyer says: "Offshore law firms
had a strong - and in some cases exceptional - 2011.
"The fastest-growing firm last year
was Collas Crill, thanks to the merger between Guernsey's Collas
Day and Jersey's Crill Canavan. Collas Day, the larger of the two,
had nine partners in 2011 against Crill Canavan's six. By the end
of 2011 promotions and hires had brought that total of 15 up to 24.
Combined staff headcount had also risen, from a 2010 total of 132
to 137."
Keen to illustrate the market's
financial results, The Lawyer asked respondents to provide an
estimate of revenue increases. No firm provided turnover figures,
but several provided guides to growth including Collas Crill, which
indicated it had had recorded 'double-digit growth'.
Collas Crill managing partner Kathryn
Purkis said: "Recognition of our growth by market commentators such
as The Lawyer is a key endorsement of our strategy to expand and
develop in Jersey, Guernsey and internationally to provide clients
with greater strength and depth of expertise across the full range
of services in the Channel Islands.
"The Lawyer's commentary notes the
strategic focus of many of the bigger offshore firms last year
being Asia: Collas Crill is proud to have been the first - and
still the only - Channel Islands based law firm with an office in
Singapore.
"Last week Collas Crill was named in
the shortlist of just 5 firms up for the Chambers Europe Awards for
Excellence in the offshore category. Those awards reflect notable
achievements over the past 12 months including outstanding work,
impressive strategic growth and excellence in client service -
which, reinforced by The Lawyer survey results, are all part of the
Collas Crill story."
This is the seventh edition of The
Lawyer's offshore survey. Last year Collas Day was ranked 14th and
Crill Canavan joint 18th.
The jurisdictions covered are the
major Caribbean jurisdictions of Bermuda, the British Virgin
Islands (BVI) and the Cayman Islands, Crown Dependencies Guernsey,
Jersey and the Isle of Man, and Gibraltar.
Firms are ranked by number of partners
and, in the case of a tie, by the number of qualified lawyers.
