Collas Crill
Guernsey's Image Rights legislation in practice
Free seminar // March 2012

Guernsey's draft Image Rights legislation was released on Wednesday for consultation. This legislation will see Guernsey bring in a registrable image right - a world first.

Commerce & Employment are holding a seminar on 24 February to explain this ground-breaking legislation, an event that we believe will be of particular interest to anyone wanting to understand the detail of the draft law so that they can take part in the month-long consultation.

But what will the law mean in practice? And where is the good, the bad and the ugly?

Please join us on 1 March for an informal session to discuss the commercial application of the draft Image Rights legislation.

Guernsey's Image Rights legislation - the good, the bad and the ugly

Thursday 01 March

This session will help you see how image rights can work for your business in practice. It is also aimed at informing debate and responses to the consultation process.

Our seminar is for Collas Crill's key image rights clients and contacts. We are offering an opportunity to discuss this new and exciting legislation in an informal and relaxed way, and hope you'll stay and join us for a drink afterwards.

Our managing partner, Jason Romer, has written extensively on the subject and is recognised as one of the Island's thought leaders in IP. David Evans is a director of Collas Crill IP and a specialist advisor to businesses small and large on their IP strategies and portfolio management.

At our event on 1 March both will discuss:

  • How the law will work in practice
  • Common pitfalls of image rights structuring
  • How will an image right be enforced - and how to tackle the cynics
  • What the legislation will protect and how it will do it

The consultation period ends on 7th March 2012 and we expect the finalised legislation to be approved during the second quarter of this year.

Please reply to events@collascrill.com if you would like to join us on 1 March.

Where: Collas Crill, Glategny Court, Glategny Esplanade

When: please join us from 4pm for refreshments. The event will start at 4.30pm and end at 6pm with drinks.

Format: Jason Romer and David Evans will present their analysis of the draft law and what it means in practice. There will be plenty of time to discuss how it relates to your own business, but if you have a particular scenario in mind, please feel free to tell us about it beforehand.
