The MOOT
The annual Collas Crill Moot is now in its 4th year.
The Moot provides schools from around Guernsey with the chance
to participate in a "mock-trial style competition". For our future
lawyers the Moot teaches students the basics of lawand provides a
fantastic opportunity to experience the drama of the court room
first hand. Even for those students not looking to pursue a legal
career, the Moot provides invaluable opportunity to improve upon
their communication, presentation and research and analysis
skills.
The Moot involves pairs of students studying real life legal
case notes and applying it to a mock court situation. They must
present their arguments in front of a Judge and are marked on their
court etiquette, clarity, body language, legal argument and
time-keeping.
Collas Crill lawyers attend weekly coaching sessions with the
students in order to mentor them through the process of successful
mooting. Advocates and Associates at the firm have been involved in
the judging and for the final to be held in December, the judging
will be conducted by Collas Crill Partners.
