Collas Crill strengthens Bermuda insolvency and restructuring team

Matthew Harders will join Collas Crill's Bermuda office at the end of November as Counsel to support the growth of the firm's insolvency and restructuring practice on the island.

Matt, who moves to Bermuda from the firm's Cayman office, is an experienced insolvency and restructuring litigation attorney with a particular focus on contentious insolvency, debt recovery and merger appraisals.

His practice covers winding up and bankruptcy petitions, provisional liquidations, restructuring and schemes of arrangement, cross-border insolvency and recognition proceedings, asset tracing and recovery, claims by and against officeholders, secured and unsecured debt recovery and security enforcement, together with related urgent and interlocutory injunctive relief and commercial, shareholder and trust disputes arising in an insolvency context.

Matt also has significant experience in merger appraisal proceedings, most recently acting for dissenting shareholders in two complex, high-profile fair value appraisal actions arising from the take-private of US-listed companies, each valued at more than US$1 billion.

Bermuda Managing Partner Lilla Zuill said: 'Collas Crill's Bermuda offering is going from strength to strength and we are delighted to welcome Matt as we continue to grow our team to support expansion of our services. Matt will help me to drive the growth of our insolvency and restructuring practice in Bermuda and I have no doubt he will be a huge success here.'

Rocco Cecere, who heads up Collas Crill’s litigation team in the Cayman Islands, said: 'Matt has made a superb contribution to our Cayman Islands litigation team, and while we will miss having him in the office day to day, we are very pleased for him and wish him every success in Bermuda. Moves like this reflect the maturity of Collas Crill's global platform and commitment to Bermuda.'

Matt said: ‘I am very grateful to Collas Crill for the trust and support it has shown in me, and to my colleagues in both Cayman and Bermuda who have helped make this move possible. Bermuda is a key jurisdiction for insolvency and restructuring work, and I am determined to build a practice that delivers real value for our clients and the wider market. I am excited to get started and look forward to working alongside Lilla and the Bermuda team as we continue to grow the firm’s offering on the island.’

Matt practised at a leading national law firm in Australia for more than five years before moving to the Cayman Islands in 2023. He joined Collas Crill in 2024.
