Moot 2026 off to a strong start across the Channel Islands and Cayman

The 2026 Collas Crill Moot is now well underway, with more than 170 sixth form students taking part across Guernsey, Jersey and the Cayman Islands.

Now in its 19th year in Guernsey, fifth year in Cayman and third year in Jersey, the Moot continues to give students the opportunity to experience the legal profession first-hand, developing advocacy, research and teamwork skills through realistic courtroom scenarios under the guidance of Collas Crill lawyers.

This year's competition has seen excellent participation across all three jurisdictions.

  • In Guernsey, 66 students are competing from The Ladies' College, The Sixth Form Centre, Elizabeth College and Blanchelande College.
  • In Cayman, 50 students from John Gray High School, Clifton Hunter High School, St Ignatius, Cayman Prep & High School and Cayman International School have entered the competition.
  • Meanwhile, Jersey has welcomed 54 students from Jersey College for Girls, De La Salle College, Victoria College, Hautlieu and Beaulieu Convent School.

The standard of professionalism on display from the students has been particularly impressive.

In Jersey, partners and judges have remarked on the exceptional quality of the students' training and submissions, with scores extremely close as competitors progress through the second round and towards the semi-finals.

The first moot focused on a bail application, while current submissions are centred on a wills dispute involving testamentary capacity and the landmark case Banks v Goodfellow.

In Guernsey, the opening round focused on defamation, with future rounds covering criminal law before the competition concludes with a negligence final.

In Cayman, students began with a contract law case and will shortly move on to tort law as part of their next training session.

The enthusiasm, preparation and professionalism shown by students so far has been hugely encouraging.

Whether participants go on to pursue careers in law or choose different paths, the Moot continues to provide valuable experience in critical thinking, public speaking, teamwork and persuasive argument.

We look forward to seeing the competition develop over the coming weeks and celebrating the achievements of all those taking part.
