Jody Ferbrache

Overview

Jody is a real estate lawyer who advises on all aspects of residential and commercial property, including acquisitions, leasing, financing, conveyancing and development projects.

Experience

Prior to specialising in Guernsey real estate law, Jody worked within a range of property professions including building surveying, building control, property management and property investment and refinancing. This experience gives him unique and comprehensive skills in advising clients on the practical, technical and legal aspects of commercial and residential real estate, including development matters.

Background

Having spent three years as a trust and company administrator, Jody attended the University of West of England and graduated in 2007 with a degree in building surveying.

After working as a building surveyor in England, drafting and negotiating construction contracts and managing the tendering process, Jody returned to Guernsey in 2007/08 as a Building Control Inspector. During this time he bolstered his technical knowledge of real estate and the laws that underpin Guernsey real estate.

Jody completed the Graduate Diploma in Law in 2022 and the Barrister Training Course in 2024 (with distinction) before being called to the Bar of England and Wales as a Barrister in 2024.

In 2025, Jody obtained the Certificat d'Études Juridques et Normandes from Université de Caen Normandie.

"I am passionate about all matters of real estate and pride myself on being practical in resolving matters efficiently."

Managing wealth, asset preservation, planning for succession and inheritance, and writing wills can be a complex and difficult experience. It's important to ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes and that your family and/or successors are taken care of.

There may be alternative ways that you wish to dispose of your estate, for charitable and philanthropic reasons or to look after those who are unable to care for themselves.

Whatever you choose, it is important to seek the right advice to ensure your wishes are preserved. At Collas Crill we have experts in a number of jurisdictions to assist with wills, succession planning, inheritance matters and probate.

We provide fast, cost-effective and sensitive advice on all types of will-related disputes during what is often an extremely upsetting and distressing time for those concerned. We regularly act on multi-party actions for both plaintiffs and defendants.

When executors, family or friends of a deceased need to get access to assets held by their loved one, they may be asked to produce a document commonly referred to as a 'grant of probate'. A grant of probate means that an individual is given the right, by the relevant court, to deal with a deceased's estate. The deceased may have left a will or may have died intestate (without a will). It might be the case that probate has already been obtained in another jurisdiction and that a separate grant of probate needs to be obtained in Guernsey or Jersey. This can be an unfamiliar and stressful process. At Collas Crill we have many years' experience in making these types of applications. We are able to assist in simply obtaining the grant of probate, can arrange release and payment of the Channel Island assets to the relevant person, or deal with the full administration of an estate depending on your requirements.

With market-leading expertise in all forms of property law including residential, commercial and planning, we aim to go above and beyond expectations to provide clients with the best possible service.

Our friendly, experienced team is one of the largest in Guernsey and can help you with a range of property services, whether you're relocating to the Channel Islands, moving house on island, planning to develop your property or seeking other residential or commercial property advice.

We are ranked in the top tier of both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners directories.
