Enforcement of judgments in the Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands has long been considered a jurisdiction friendly to foreign investors, not least because of the well-established laws which govern the enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitration awards.

In the Cayman Islands chapter of the Chambers Enforcement of Judgments 2022 Global Practice Guide, Stephen Leontsinis, Natascha Steiner-Smith and Kirsten Bailey summarise two recent developments that are bolstering the islands' reputation as an investor-friendly business location - the ground-breaking introduction of the Private Funding of Legal Services Act 2020 and the recent decision of the Privy Council in Gol Linhas Aereas SA v MatlinPatterson Global Opportunities Partners [2022] UKPC 21.
