Collas Crill Contributes to New York Bar Association publication

Two members of our Guernsey dispute resolution team have recently contributed to The International Law Practicum, a publication of the International Section of the New York State Bar Association.

Partner, Gareth Bell, and Associate, Emma Taylor, co-authored the article 'Enforcing Foreign Judgments and Arbitral Awards in Guernsey' which appears in Volume 31, No 2. of The International Law Practicum.

The International Law Practicum publishes articles that focus on the practical needs of lawyers who advise on multi-jurisdictional matters, with this particular edition focused on the enforceability of foreign judgments in jurisdictions around the world including, Canada, South Africa and Russia.

As a major offshore financial centre, Guernsey is of course home to many trusts, asset holding companies, offshore bank accounts, investment funds and the like, which may form part of the wealth structuring of individuals and companies against whom judgments have been obtained in other countries. It is therefore common for worldwide judgment creditors to seek to enforce judgments in Guernsey.

With this in mind, this article is intended to be a practical and informative guide on the ways in which foreign judgments can be enforced on the island.
