Legal Business: Annual review of the top ten offshore law firms

Collas Crill Group Managing Partner, Jason Romer, features in 'Shoring up - the offshore report' - the 2021 annual review of the top ten offshore law firms by Legal Business.

The report focuses on the resilience demonstrated by the offshore legal sector over the last 12 months, and how innovation, adaptability and growing new markets have made for an active period across all practice areas. Collas Crill has been no exception, with Jason commenting that 'our people have adapted brilliantly to the challenges brought on by the pandemic.’

Cited examples of Collas Crill's recent stand-out work include acting for Curaleaf on its acquisition of EMMAC Life Sciences, advising TEAM on a placing of shares and successful admission to trading on AIM, and acting for Mail.ru Group on its $200m equity fundraising and $400m debt offering, one of the largest security issues by a BVI-domiciled company in 2020.

The report also outlines board-level changes within the firm, including Stephen Leontsinis' promotion to Cayman managing partner, the appointment of Ellie Crespi as BVI managing partner and the appointment of Simon Beswick (who stepped down as international CEO of Osborne Clarke on 1 July) as Chairman.

On the growth of our Cayman Islands office, Jason said: ‘Our investment in that office is really starting to deliver. The traditional areas of corporate, funds and our deep insolvency practice continue to thrive. We have also recruited Gina Berry who has really kickstarted the growth of our property practice there. The merger appraisal practice, led by Rocco Cecere, has also ballooned in the last year or so.’
