Support for Centre for Cancer Immunology

The Wilkinson Charitable Trust, of which Collas Crill Trust Limited is a Trustee, is proud to support the work of the University of Southampton as it continues to raise funds for a state-of-the-art Centre for Cancer Immunology based at Southampton General Hospital.

The University of Southampton leads the UK in cancer immunology research and is currently in the process of raising £25m to open the centre; the biggest fundraising campaign that the University has ever undertaken.

Connected to leading institutions worldwide, the cutting-edge research hub will enable interdisciplinary teams to expand clinical trials, explore new areas and develop lifesaving drugs.

Alumnus of the University of Southampton and senior partner of Collas Crill, Chris Bound, has introduced the fundraising to Guernsey, where many islanders continue to benefit from the Southampton General Hospital's facilities.

Chris has supported the University assisting in the organisation of a lecture by Dr Andy Davies and Dr Peter Gomes, both of whom treat patients on Guernsey, on the revolutionary nature of this research and what the island can do to support the campaign.

Chris said: "Southampton General Hospital has played an important role in the lives of many islanders and those living in the Bailiwick of Guernsey will no doubt benefit enormously from the University of Southampton’s this research.

"It is great that Jim Wilkinson, as a Guernsey Resident, has been so generous, enabling construction to start on the building. The entrance and atrium will be named after Jim and his late wife Peggy."

Professor Tim Elliott, , from the University of Southampton and Director of the new Centre for Cancer Immunology, said: "Immunology is saving lives. Our ground-breaking research using the body’s immune system to eradicate cancer is so powerful it can last a lifetime. But revolutionary research needs revolutionary facilities. We hope that islanders will help us reach our goal of £25m."
