Richard is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution and Regulatory team, specialising in corporate and trust litigation and complex regulatory matters. His regulatory practice covers data protection and privacy, cyber, financial crime and AML (including sanctions), technology and AI, and eGambling. He also advises on contentious matters involving funds, banking and investment relationships, trusts and estates, frequently involving complex, cross-border issues where litigation and regulatory considerations intersect.
Richard has significant experience in high-value and ground-breaking disputes. He has appeared in a number of contentious trust and estates trials, including matters concerning the construction of wills, the law relating to insolvent trusts and the scope of trustee duties, as well as advising on novel claims for the reconstitution of trusts. He regularly works with private client teams to identify and address potential contentious issues at an early stage. His financial crime and sanctions practice includes extensive experience of Guernsey's consent regime, complemented by his expertise in trusts, data protection and privacy.
Richard is recognised as a leading practitioner in data protection and technology in Guernsey. His experience includes advising on data breaches and cyber incidents, DSARs, international transfers, cloud migrations, payment platforms, satellite internet, connected cars, biometric identification, blockchain gaming and AI deployment. He has advised both regulators and businesses on contentious and non-contentious regulatory matters, and has contributed to the development of Guernsey's data protection framework.
He is Chair of GACO and sits on the States of Guernsey's Digital & Technology Advisory Panel and the ODPA's Guidance and Legal Advisory Panels.
