Directors’ duties under spotlight for Collas Crill conference

The lifecycle of a company, the role of its director and the importance of corporate governance are just some of the topics that will be explored at Collas Crill’s Directors’ Duties conference on Wednesday 14 November.

Highlighting local legal cases, such as Carlyle, and much-publicised UK examples, including BHS, Carillion and Sports Direct, the speakers will investigate how directors are coming under increasing scrutiny to fulfil a progressively more demanding role.

An expert speaker panel will identify the issues directors face, and what they need to know and consider during the major phases of a company's lifecycle and demise.

Collas Crill partners David O’Hanlon, Gareth Bell, Michael Adkins and Sean Cheong, alongside senior associates Simon Heggs and Nin Ritchie, will be joined by Andrea Harris, of Krys Global, and Ben Rhodes from Grant Thornton.

Collectively, the panel will share their expertise in conflicts, corporate governance and directors’ duties.

David O’Hanlon said, “Directors are coming under ever-increasing pressure. The role that they are required to fulfil is rapidly evolving, placing greater expectations upon the performance of their duties whilst those duties are becoming less defined.

“It’s important to recognise every facet of a directorship, from risks that need attention, pitfalls to avoid and how to navigate difficult situations. We’re pleased to offer this opportunity for the financial community to benefit from our specialist expertise in this contentious area.”

The conference will be divided into three sessions; The Dawn of Directorship, Managing the Life of a Company and The Death Panel and will cover important, topical and practical issues for directors, senior managers and their advisers working in Guernsey's financial services businesses.

The event is the third in a series of Collas Crill directors’ duties events, which have been well received by the financial services community.

The Directors’ Duties Conference takes place on Wednesday 14 November from 8:30am to 12:15pm at the Somerset Suite, The Duke of Richmond Hotel. For more information and to book your place, click here or email events@collascrill.com.
